In an event filled West Australian Dirt Racing Late Model State Championship, the East Coast Late Models proved to be the fastest and the strongest of the thirty cars competing.

East Coast Late Model points score leader and last seasons NSW State Champion Scott McPherson in the number 7 Canberra Better Trailers car proved too strong and too consistent for the very competitive WA stalwarts and the US invitees.

On a beautiful Northam evening the lads at the Northam Speedway Complex put on a fantastic night that just didn't work out for the local lads.

To rub salt in the wounds, with Scott taking the title, East Coast compatriots Nathan Disney in the number 11 Adamstown Car Doctors car with his beast of a Kern engine took the second podium step and long time East Coast legend Darryl Grimson in the number 12 Bringelly Acreage Marketing took the final position.

It was not all bells and whistles for the East Coast guys though with Barry Kelleher in the number 65 Motofoto Hillermans car not able to make it a perfect sweep after being bundled out from third position with a bit of an accident.

The results auger well for this evenings round 1 of the 7th QFS Dirt Racing Late Model National Championships at the phenomenal Kwinana Complex in Perth.

It will be a tough session with the results from tonight signficantly impacting on Sundays Grand Finale. The East Coast Lads are quietly confident with minor car damage for Barry and a sore arm for Darryl being the only negatives.

A win for the East Coast drivers on Sunday evening would be a wonderful argument for a national series in upcoming seasons. After several seasons of building the competition and the fields Late Models have now developed the maturity and the strength to take their unique brand of thunderous entertainment to the rest of Australia.

From Motofoto's position - GO BARRY - and best of luck to all racers - particulary those from the East Coast.

For all that are able to, festivities kick off tonight at the Perth Kwinana Motorplex at 6 and continue on Sunday evening at the same, glorious, venue.

 See you all there!
